Teacher— a bridge between generations.
I teach Armenian online to children, adults, families, and the diaspora worldwide — through my own books, modern methods, and a whole lot of love for the language.
Polyglot, author and online educator — teaching children, adults, families and the diaspora worldwide through her own books, modern methods and a deep love for the language.

A teacher, an author, and a lifelong language learner.
I began teaching Armenian online in 2015, when the president of the SOAR charitable foundation invited me to create an Armenian Language Program for children adopted from Armenia and their families.
Two of my very first students completely transformed the way I see the Armenian language: Olivia, a 5-year-old adopted child living in the United States, and Razmik, a 92-year-old learner with whom I studied Armenian for five years.
Through them, I realized something fundamental: Armenian is not just a language — it is a bridge connecting generations, stories, memories, and roots. My mission is to be that bridge for others.
Armenian is a language of love. After more than ten years of teaching, I can give you countless reasons to learn it.

Letters from those who have walked the path of the Armenian language with Sona.
Sona was wonderful, warm, engaging, and truly professional. Her teaching style is fun, personal, and easy to follow, and she created such a comfortable space to learn and practice Armenian. I genuinely enjoyed our session with her and left feeling motivated and more confident. Highly recommend Sona to anyone wanting a great Armenian teacher.
Sona has been such an amazing instructor for me. I'm marrying into an Armenian family and want to feel confident speaking with members of the family. Sona took the time to understand my motivation in learning and came up with an approach that would get me speaking/reading right away. I'm even going to be able to address our guests in Armenian at our wedding.
Learning a new language as an adult can be really intimidating but Sona keeps it from being daunting. She has a method for teaching writing, grammar, and the alphabet that is really approachable. She is also very personable and it's clear she cares a lot about her students and their success. I look forward to our session every week! Thank you so much Sona!

Sona is a wonderful teacher. She is patient and does an excellent job explaining the language. Learning with her has been a great deal of fun. She's very friendly and flexible; she will work around your schedule no problem.
I have been taking private Armenian classes with Sona for 6 months. She is a knowledgeable, experienced, and extremely talented instructor who is able to convey difficult concepts to her students (over the internet, which is not easy to do), beginning with basics and building up from there. I have studied Armenian before but never with much success. This time is different: Sona is such an experienced language educator that she continues to work with me on the knowledge and skills I need to read, write, and speak Armenian, so that for the first time I have access to a language that my family lost with my grandparents' passing. Sona is passionate about keeping the Armenian language alive and she is interested in the unique stories of her students; my weekly lessons with her are truly the highlight of my week.
I can just start off by saying that Sona is such a sweet, caring, understanding teacher — she's so clever and very structured in her teachings. I like that we've been able to form a friendship and I hope one day I can fly out to Armenia and officially meet each other!! If you want someone who loves what they do and is patient, Sona Jan is the one!!!
I have been taking on-line lessons from Sona for almost 2 years. She's an excellent teacher — knowledgeable, patient, and flexible. She is a native Armenian speaker who speaks a few other languages so is very well prepared to teach practical vocabulary and conversational material as well as more complex grammatical structures. She has been happy to adapt to my interests, strengths, and weaknesses as a learner. I always look forward to my lesson!
Sona has known my family for 5 years, and taught Armenian to both myself and at the time my 10 year old daughter. Her ability to adapt to the generational differences in teaching, plus understanding the linguistic differences between Eastern and Western Armenian, helped prepare us for speaking with our compatriots in the current Republic of Armenia.
Sona taught my daughter Armenian language classes via Skype and was amazing! She is very patient and creative in her teaching methods! It never felt like there were over a thousand miles between her and my girl! I highly recommend Sona to teach a child, adult, family or group of professionals! Each person would learn at an amazing rate!
Sona has proven herself to be a great teacher. She has done this over and over again. I have known Sona for 12 years, and have met some of her students. They all hold her in the highest regard. She is passionate and devoted, patient, and makes learning fun, which is how you will be your best with her as your teacher.
